5000th Female Fighter Profile
It was only in May when we were celebrating adding our 4000th profile to the Awakening Female Fighter Database. We had no idea that we would be adding our 5000th profile so soon! When we relaunched the website back at the start of the year we had 2900 profiles, meaning it had taken 5 months to add just over 1000 profiles. However the last 1000 profiles have been added within three and a half months, so the increase in rate at which female fighters are being added is very evident!
So who is the 5000th female fighter to be added? Her name is Melissa Grant, an amateur Muay Thai fighter from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia with a record of 4-0-0. We asked her when and why she first started martial arts and she replied…
“I started Muay Thai when I was 19-years-old for self defence. I got bashed in a park when I was 11 so I wanted to learn to defend myself. I joined a fighter’s gym and trained for 3 years before having my first fight at 23. I won my first 4 fights by unanimous decision. After a 4-year break, I returned in 2014 and started training at The Pitbull Kickboxing Gym & Muay Thai.”
She had taken a break from fighting due to a couple of large life altering events; a breast cancer scare, and an upsetting break up with her then fiancé. Melissa is now back and ready to battle in the ring!
A three other interesting facts about Melissa are; she is also a model, she has a small percentage of Aboriginal ancestry, and her fight name is ‘Melicious’.
