Emily Kwok’s Bio

Emily Kwok is a female fighter from Aamori, Japan.

She was the first Canadian woman to receive a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and the first to win a World Championship.

She is an instructor at Princeton Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in New Jersey. She is both head instructor and co-founder of Womens Grappling, the only organization to host a womens only training camp throughout North America.

She began BJJ in Canada in 2001, and would earn her Blue Belt from Renzo Gracie after moving to the USA. She earned her BJJ Purple Belt during her year in Japan, where she also picked up MMA. After moving back to the USA, she would go on to earn her Brown Belt, and eventually, the coveted Black Belt in 2008 from Ricardo Almeida.

Personal Life

Emily has born in Japan. Her family immigrated to Canada in the early eighties, and she grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She holds Canadian citizenship.

She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.

She is also a mother.
