Jorina Baars’ title defense is one of the most highly anticipated fights on the planet at the moment. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait much longer! Kickstarter unsuccessful. Boooooooooooooo! Yes, as the title of this article suggests, we were unsuccessful in reaching our goal. This is of course a disappointment to us and we know to you guys also! By the time the kickstarter campaign clock had ticked it’s last few seconds we had reached 19% of our goal. There had been 103 backers with an average pledge amount of £58 (approx $90). We know there was a multitude of reasons why there wasn’t more backers and we can be realistic about the pitfalls that the campaign faced. Don’t worry, we’re still happy and positive about the future of Awakening and we can certainly take a lot away from this previous month.

Four weeks ago, Vicky Church from Cornwall, England became the UK’s #1 at 60kg after Sheree Halliday unfortunately lost her slot from being out through injury for a substantial amount of time.
It’s unfortunate news and really not something we’re happy to announce. Many fans, and indeed the entire Muay Thai community were waiting in anticipation to see Jorina Baars defend her Lion Fight Welterweight Title this Friday at Lion Fight 18. She was set to face Anke Van Gestel, an excellent young fighter from Belgium who is relatively unknown outside of Europe.

A great way to gain insight into Scott Hirano’s creative direction and how he gets the photos he does is to take a look at his inspiration. His photojournalistic style is inspired by the likes of: James Nachtwey, Eugene Richards, Nina Berman, and especially one of his favorites W. Eugene Smith. He feels that their secret is to invest a lot of time into their subjects, which in turn creates images that are way too real.
