We’re pleased to announce that this month’s Awakening Spotlight, and ninth in the series, highlights the impressive Diana Prazak. Diana brings two firsts to the Awakening Spotlight series; she is the first Australian female fighter we’ve covered, and also the first Boxer! You might be thinking… “About time!”, and to this we hold our hands up and say…”yep, sorry!” More
Our ninth Awakening Spotlight article takes us to Louisville, Kentucky to highlight American Muay Thai and K1 fighter Lindsay Haycraft. We thought this genuine and hardworking lady was an ideal athlete for this months’ spotlight. Sadly, she officially announced her retirement at the end of May, etching in history her respectable overall record of 25-12-0. We asked her what inspires and motivates her, and she replied… More
Women’s martial arts is truly a global sport on the rise, and its growth is roused by athletes like Ranini Cundasawmy, a prominent multi-disciplined fighter from Mauritius. Ranini has been pivotal within the island nation’s martial arts community as a Muay Thai and Savate champion, coach, and icon. More
Our last spotlight of the year brings you an athlete that you’ll definitely want to keep an eye out for in 2014! Maureen Riordon is a true multi-disciplinary martial artist, having competed in five different combat sports to date! Even more impressive than her diverse skill set is her fierce drive to inspire others to pursue their own goals, and to never give up fighting to make them happen.
Our 6th Awakening Spotlight brings you a fighter that certainly lives up to her name. Tecia ‘Tiny Tornado’ Torres is a fiery strawweight, competing in MMA, Kickboxing and Muay Thai. This humble athlete fights out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and almost certainly doesn’t realize how inspirational she is.
Enrolled into Karate classes by her mother at age 5, Tecia immediately fell in love with it. She earned her black belt at 13 in Jhoon-Rhee Taekwando/American Freestyle and only stopped training when she started college. Tecia proved she was a well-rounded athlete at high school, playing varsity soccer for four years. She enjoyed the competition and the adrenaline rush it gave her, this obviously played a huge part in shaping the young woman we see today. She soon returned to martial arts by taking up Muay Thai, and fell in love all over again. She had her first fight at 19, after a year of training, and won by a technical knockout! More
Our 5th Awakening Spotlight is a very special one indeed. We’d like to introduce you to Emma Bayer of MZ & Emmers Sports Bra Auction for Breast Cancer. This is a unique spotlight because she’s NOT a martial artist, but yet has an incredibly inspiring story that Awakening has now become involved in. Did we mention that this little American girl is just six years old!
Most of us have wanted to do more for our favourite charities, but more often than not we allow daily life to prevent us from putting in the time. The story that little Emma has to tell will hopefully prove to us all that getting involved is easy and worthwhile. She has played a large role in raising almost $23,000 for breast cancer in the last two years with her family. More
