The 15 New Invicta Signees - Pt.2

Yesterday you might have seen our overall introduction to the fifteen new Invicta Fighting Championship signees. For the next three days we will be taking a look at each of these Women’s Mixed Martial Artists, and giving you our take on them. As we mentioned in the last article, we have decided to the split this into four articles because of the potential length of the subject.

Today we will start with the new Strawweight signees. We all know that this Invicta division was hit hard when the UFC swooped in and opened their doors a little more to WMMA.

STRAWWEIGHT (115lbs)

Livia Renata Souza Brazil

Livia Renata Souza Awakening Profile

Livia Renata Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil) is one of the more technical ground fighters to be signed, as she holds a black belt in BJJ. Opponents will have to try and keep distance from the 22 year old, due to her also holding a black belt in Judo!

2013 was a great year for Livia, she debuted and won all of her MMA fights giving her a perfect Pro record of 5-0-0. Two of the fights were won in the first minute of the first round by submission.

Karolina Kowalkiewicz Poland

Karolina Kowalkiewicz (Łódź, Poland) previously fought at Flyweight and has now come down to fight in Invicta’s Strawweight division. This 28 year old has a Pro MMA record of 4-0-0 and is the KSW Champion, 55kg.

Her fighting style is Krav Maga.

Mellony Geugjes Netherlands

Mellony Geugjes Awakening Profile

Mellony Geugjes (Amsterdam, Netherlands) at just 21 years old, has a Pro record of 0-1-0 and limited MMA experience. When you look into Mellony’s martial arts history it becomes clear why Invicta FC plucked her for their Strawweight division. She has a wealth of Kickboxing experience from Holland, a country renowned for its stand up fighting and tough opponents. She has achieved World Champion status in Kickboxing and European Champion status in Boxing. We should expect crowd pleasing fights from Mellony.

Herica Tiburcio Brazil

Herica Tiburcio (Sao Paulo, Brazil) is another ground fighter. At 22 years old, she holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has already accumulated a lot of cage experience. This 4’11 BJJ specialist has a Pro MMA record of 7-2-0, with six of those wins by submission.

Ashley Greenway United States

Ashley Greenway Awakening Profile

Ashley Greenway, aka Dollface (North Carolina, United States) is a female fighter who’s comfortable fighting on her feet, or on the ground. She is on a three fight MMA win streak and her last and indeed only MMA loss was against Tecia Torres.

Ashley started training in 2004 with Muay Thai, and she is 29 years old and a mother of two boys.

Delaney Owen United States

Delaney Owen Awakening Profile

Delaney Owen, aka Lil’ Scrappy (Florida, United States) is a 21 year old who originally hails from Texas. She holds a blue belt in BJJ and has won a number of championships! She recently made her professional debut MMA at Flyweight, but is coming back down to Strawweight for Invicta. She holds an impressive amateur record of 7-1-0 – a record which she has racked up in just one and a half years. The majority of her fights can be seen on her Awakening profile – we’re excited to be seeing her get into the Invicta cage.

So there you have the Invicta Strawweights, an exciting bunch indeed. Tomorrow we will take a look at the Atomweight and Flyweight signees, and on Friday we will finish off with the Bantamweights and Featherweights.

It wasn't until age fifteen when training restarted with Kickboxing, and shortly after Kung-Fu. Rew finally settled on Wu Shu Kwan (Chinese Boxing), and for a couple of years trained between four and eight hours a day and took part in several displays, but only competed in a couple of exhibition fights. If time ever becomes available again, Rew longs to start training in Muay Thai.
