AnnMaria de Mars is a female judo fighter from Scott Air Field Base, Illinois, United States.
She began her judo training at the age of 12, and started coaching at 14.
During a college exchange semester, AnnMaria lived in Tokyo, Japan where she trained under Sensei Osawa.
She became the first person representing the United States to win a World Judo Championships, which she accomplished in 1984 under her former name AnnMaria Burns.
AnnMaria is mother to four children, including Olympic Judoka and WMMA Champion Ronda Rousey.
She earned a degree in Business from Washington University. She earned her MBA from the University of Minnesota. Pursuing further study, she also earned an MA and PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of California, and would go on to be an educator by teaching at the college level in North Dakota.
