Sara is the first American woman to receive an Olympic medal in wrestling, when she achieved Silver in Athens, Greece in 2004.

Previously signed to Invicta Fighting Championship, she is currently signed with the UFC.

PERSONAL LIFE

Sara’s older brother Jason was murdered in January of 1999. Sara moved to the University her brother had been attending, where she competed on the same wrestling team her brother had to honor him. The killer was eventually found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Sara has also lost her fiancé Steven in a car accident in 2004. After the accident, Sara decided to pursue a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counselling, which she earned in 2010 from Gardner-Webb University. She has used this education to work with troubled youth.

Sara has one daughter, Bella, born in 2009.
