The Awakening WMMA Awards 2014 results. The response this year was overwhelming and humbling, and saw approximately and 8 x increase on last years response. A huge thank you to everyone that took part. Of course a huge congratulations to all those that were nominated and to those that won their categories!
Jorina Baars’ title defense is one of the most highly anticipated fights on the planet at the moment. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait much longer! Kickstarter unsuccessful. Boooooooooooooo! Yes, as the title of this article suggests, we were unsuccessful in reaching our goal. This is of course a disappointment to us and we know to you guys also! By the time the kickstarter campaign clock had ticked it’s last few seconds we had reached 19% of our goal. There had been 103 backers with an average pledge amount of £58 (approx $90). We know there was a multitude of reasons why there wasn’t more backers and we can be realistic about the pitfalls that the campaign faced. Don’t worry, we’re still happy and positive about the future of Awakening and we can certainly take a lot away from this previous month.
Finally!! Jessy Jess signs with Invicta FC and will fight in the Bantamweight division! Lovingly known simply as Jessy Jess, this exciting 26 year old female fighter has been tearing up Australia since her debut in December 2012, and many have been wondering when Invicta would pluck her into their ranks.
20 Days to go. We’re 10 days in to the 30 day kickstarter campaign and we wanted to write a 10 day milestone article to take a look at how the campaign is going, the ups and downs and how we think it will pan out. UFC finally signs Holly Holm. What great news, yesterday evening Dana White announced over twitter that the UFC has finally signed the incredible Holly Holm!
Smash 9 – Iske vs Hodge. On Saturday the 5th we had the pleasure of seeing Lubena Jane Iske face Bekie Hodge for the WBC British Super-Featherweight Title at Smash 9 in Watford, UK.
Smash 9 – Amber Kitchen vs Niamh Kinehan. We travelled this past Saturday to Smash Muaythai 9 in Watford, UK, to see two fights: The WBC title fight between Lubena Jane Iske and Bekie Hodge and the other female bout on the card between Amber Kitchen and Niamh Kinehan.
Ruthie Wright retires. As the title of the article suggests, Ruthie Wright today announced her retirement from fighting. Earlier this month we featured Ruthie in a spotlight article, in which we talked about her interesting life and achievements.
Pioneer Rosi Sexton earns an AOCA. Rosi Sexton has inspired countless females throughout the globe, and still continues to do so. Not only due to her work ethic and character, but through the knowledge she hands down to the younger generation.
